Top 10 Hank's favorite things
64
As you all know, Hank and I are husband and wife. We've been together a lot of years. And it's been a grand lot of years.
By now I think I know him almost as good as his mother did. (I say this because I'm a mother and mother's know everything there is to know about heir children and you can't tell them otherwise, haha.)
Like most people, Hank has a lot of quirks. I can't say I understand all of them, but over the years I've learned to appreciate them as he has learned to appreciate mine.
As you can imagine, Hank has lots of quirks, though I wouldn't say more than most; but I've narrowed them down to ten. Ten things that are his favorite things. Ten things that make him who he is. Ten things that make me chuckle every time. Ten things that make him predictable in a most wonderful way. Ten things I've learned to love and that make me love him.
Enjoy,
Naddy
My Hank loves his chocolate.
1.
My Hank gets up in the middle of the night, sometimes more than once for milk and a cookie or for a glass of chocolate milk. You guessed it. Hank loves chocolate. It's his comfort food I guess. I'm not much of a chocolate lover. Not to say I don't eat it, but I don't go crazy without it. For Hank, it's a dietary supplement. Haha. I used to forget to buy them from the store. It made no difference to me. But it made a difference to him. He'd whine and moan and mope about it to all ends of the world. So now, I make sure we are all stocked up on chocolate and milk. A cranky Hank is not a pleasant thing. I like to see Hank happy.
I imagine if Hank had a mustache, this is what it would do every time he neared a piece of chocolate.

He's like the Motel 6. He'll leave the lights on for you.
2
Hank loves to leave the lights on. Hank can't see in the dark, so he likes to leave lights on so he doesn't have to worry about it. It doesn't matter if he's in the room or not, if he's going to pass through at any point he turns it on and leaves it on. What he's afraid of, I don't know. Now, by the looks of him, you'd think he was a bit of a tight wad, but he doesn't seem to be when it comes to the electric bill. He does make full use of electricity every night, only worrying about turning everything off when he's on his way to bed. It makes me cringe, but I have to say, seeing the lights on where they aren't necessary reminds me he is with me or close by, so it does lift my heart.
Comfy Cozy... for some of us.
3.
Hank loves pillows and heavy covers. He has pillows of all shapes and sizes. I'm not allowed to touch them. They have to be just so, some fluffed, some not. And they all have to have a different pillow case so he can tell them apart. Now, I ask you, if you're sleeping, and it's dark, can you tell the difference? Apparently, Hank can. Logically, I'm lost, so if you have an answer, let me in on it. One pillow is all I can handle. He also needs his covers to have some sort of weight to them. I like mine light as a feather. I've made adjustments over the years. He's occasionally compromised with the covers, but never with the pillows. He even steals mine if he thinks I'm not using it. In all fairness, Hank had back problems and uses them to prop him over here and over there depending on which side he's laying on. But it has truly gone way beyond the three that were necessary back in the day. I'd be lost in a bed without pillows and weighty covers.
Pedicures, the Hank way.
4.
Hank loves to let his toenails grow long. He says they don't cut or grow right if he cuts them prematurely or too short. Enough said.
Hello! Anybody home?!
5.
My Hank loves to just stand there. This is not a love that began with old age, as one might imagine. He just stands there and stares like he has all the time in the world, a goofy smile on his face. I have to wonder what goes on in that mind of his. He always says, "Why I'm thinking of you, dear." Now this may be true, but I'm more likely to think he just gets brain farts and doesn't know what he's thinking. He appreciates the moment, this is true in many ways. I'm a mover. I like to be on my toes, so sometimes I have to admit it irks me, him just deciding to stand around like that when we've got important things to do. But then his just standing there has slowed me down a bit. He's taught me how to stop and smell the roses, and we have plenty of those in our front garden.
Good Tide ings.
6.
Hank loves to use Tide laundry detergent. This I most certainly cannot stand. It may work for him. Fine. But it does not work for me. I can't stand the scent. It's too harsh on my clothes. I have nothing against Tide, mind you. Some people swear by it. But I've always used Cheer or Woolite. So when Hank buys Tide for the laundry because he saw it was on sale, I smile at him and say, "Oh, good." And then I hand him his laundry basket, letting him know, of course, that he's the Tide pro. I can't get it work as well as he does. I let him know that I'll do mine separately so he doesn't have to do as much. ;)
Can he fix it?
7.
Hank loves to fix things. I think you all know where I'm going with this. Although his heart is in the right place, he does more planning and thinking than he does fixing. Most everything in the house is half fixed, to be continued lord knows when. And as for clean up of his fix-it projects, well, he's been getting better at it.
Now hold on just a minute...
8.
Hank loves to read receipts in line at the grocery. Remember when I said Hank wasn't a tightwad about the electric bill? Well, he is one when it comes to spending money on food. He does not like to get gypped by the cashiers. "They make mistakes you know." He enjoys saying this on the way to the car. Which we get to only after he's double checked everything on the list while still in line. The cashier tries to hurry him up by starting on the next batch of groceries, but to no avail. I have to say, he has caught some mistakes. Enough to take us to the movies once. And I suppose it does make up for the electricity over-usage.
Electronic MAN Man man
9.
Hank loves to linger in the electronics section for "a minute or two". I have a stack of magazines in the car, wating for me so I don't have to wait around twiddling my thumbs while my feet swell up, I can go wait in the car instead. This way he doesn't feel rushed. Who am I to complain. But let me just say, boys and their electronics. I used to wish I was a stereo.
Playing Dress Up
10.
Hank loves to dress up for Halloween. He truly gets into the spirit. Gets all dressed up head to toe. You ever know what he's going to be. In fact, he sometimes changes costumes halfway through festivities just for the fun of it. But here's the thing.... Hank dresses up for Halloween when it's not Halloween. He surprises me at the front door with a wig or an outfit or a claw hand, and he laughs about it till there's no tomorrow. I'm not surprised by anything any more. Let me just say I do have a second favorite outfit. Hank has a fox tail he picked up at a thrift store somewhere. When he puts that one on, I know he's feeling sly and I'd better watch out, if you know what I mean.
Love you Hank,
~Naddy

I chuckled at the thought of Hank's pillow collection. LOL! The two of you seem to have a nice chemistry, at least this is what shows up in your photo and writing. :)
What a cutey is Hank! Love your name by the way.
Hank sounds like a dear! Anyone who loves chocolate has got to be one! :)
"By the looks of him, you'd think he was a bit of a tight wad" - no ! I don't think that and once I read about his brain farts I knew it couldn't be true - good for him for checking the check out girls. Are you sure he's not checking the out ? He is rahter foxy you know ? (course you know) This was so funny - is Hank going to write about your quirks ???
Absolutely hilarious and also touching. I love Dali and hate Tide - I had a rash my whole childhood from Tide. Whew! I'm certainly glad you both joined HubPages.
This is funny and quite dear. Hank seems like quite a guy. My wife checks the receipts in the checkout line. I just get short changed and walk away m'self. I'm good for business!
This is such a cute hub from such a cute couple! You guys are so adorable. You're the type of couple that everyone hopes they end up being!
I'm right there with Hank on the Halloween Dress Up......he and I both should write a hub about our love for it!
I love this too.....grins all the way through it.....thanks! :)
Hank is way cool.
Ditto on adorable! It's so refreshing to find a couple who not only still love each other after so many years, but *like* and *respect* each other too. Hubland is soooo lucky to have the both of you! ;D
Hi Naddy, I had fun reading this one about Hank. Hi Hank! :D I guess this summarizes your relationship... "But then his just standing there has slowed me down a bit. He's taught me how to stop and smell the roses." You compliment each other so well. Thumbs up for such a lovely hub and a lovely couple. Sending you both my morning hug....
Hi Hank and Naddy. I love you aoth already. I know about his pillow thing becuase that's me too. 'nuff said, right Hank? I love the Bower birds, I am a birder (Penguins and I are famous now). I think he probably enjoys the smell of his clothes washed in Tide, it may be that it is nostalgic to him like the fragrance of an old car with the old upholstery after rain. You recall that odor? I do and I have a feeling of my childhood evrytime I smell it.
I really enjoyed this one. thanks
Geez Hank what's a guy gonna do when he can't even have a "brain fart" on his own. I even had to scroll up and read what number that was. It was number, (hang on) 5.
Now you take that , whats her name , oh yeah, you take that Naddy by the hand, and you take her out to that beautiful Rose Garden and you give her one big Hug from your mate in Australia.
Now Hank I know your getting old, but I am too and I can't wait around forever you know. You still havn't taken Naddy out to the Rose Garden have you ?
Ah Hank I know how you feel buddy I've got a butterfly just like that.
Sometimes we just gotta slow down just enough so they catch up with us. Their pheromones will get you every time won't they ?
Lots of luck with that kiss Hank, I reckon you've put enough work in to get at least one. Arrr com'n Naddy how about it ? ;-)
I'm pretty sure Hank n Naddy are making out as we speak. ;) Hank got his kiss in. Haven't heard from them since dinner.
I completely understand the pillow thing, Naddy. I have 6 myself. And I've been known to steal my husband's. But I can't stand heavy covers. Most of the time, after an hour, I've kicked everything off already.
And the grocery thing. I won't get in an empty line. I want all my stuff up on the conveyor belt before she starts checking because I'm going to watch that screen like a hawk. He's right. They screw up all the time!!
It's wonderful that you are so happy. And nice that you don't go around turning off all the lights behind him. You let him have a quirk or two, and that's sweet.
Hey that's my motto . You never know which one's gonna be your last so you make it last as long as you can !.
Now wait a minute, that might have been the the shower I was thinking of ?
Love the Muppets. ;-)
Hank is kinda like me. I am always trying to steal a kiss from Wee One but she will try to flee. I have to corner her, she covers her boobs with her hands as I try to play with them and I finally win copping a feel when I can. We sit on the patio together to enjoy the 'roses' and listen to birdsong and I once in awhile play with a leg. I have to explaint to her how I just found out my hands are an errogenous zone according to am i dead yet. hmmm, never knew that, now she may understand why I do that. LOL
Naddy, I think Hank and I are on the same page. ;-)
You'll just have to keep your eye on that young Frieda , you just tell her she aughta be out lookin for a young fella of her own.
Kids these days now I ask you. ?
What a fun post. I really enjoyed reading that. I hope all is well with you both. I love your new avitar.
I had to read this one again! - Happy 4th of July, Naddy and Hank.
This is such a cute hub! Loved it! ;-)
Awwwww ...sooooooooooooo sweet :-)
Naddy, my dear, this is one of the most heart-warming bits I've read in quite a while!
I adored your style, your humour, & what you didn't say as much as what you did say. That level of diplomacy will get anyone to the Golden Wedding Bells Ball, indeed! *wink*
Your video insertions perfectly complemented your writing, & I enjoyed them entirely, especially the nod to dear Mr. Dali!
Bless your heart! Bless you & Hank! Well, I just bless you two lovebirds both for this gorgeous hub ~ you for writing it & Hank for inspiring it! *wink*
You know, as a member of the StepLand Survival Collective & as an authour specializing in post-divorce blended/step family dynamics, I can tell you that getting the lovebirds involved to see the best in one another for everyone's well-being is really quite a big job! *giggle*
So, Naddy, you can imagine my joy, when I happened across your lovely hub here about your hubby. *sigh*
You have been a great blessing to me, my dear, & I wish for you & your hubby every good thing, vibrant health, love, peace, happiness, & laughter!
I am an instant fan of yours, & I must now read everything you've ever written here! Yummmmm!
Please know that I'm sending you great big cyber*hugs through the PC screen right now, Naddy, for brightening my day so thoroughly.
Warmest regards...C.E. Grant

- 3 Ways to Make Your Own Jump Rings
If you're making your own jewellery, or doing chain maille, instead of buying jump rings, there are at least three ways to make your own jump rings. Making jump rings isn't difficult to do, one of the ways to make your own jump rings is "the proper way" involving a saw and the other two are ways to make jump rings without using a saw. You can use your jump rings to attach pendants to chains, to make links to create your own bracelet or necklace from scratch, or even for chain maille. - 4 days ago

This is so funny. You're always making me laugh, Naddy. I seriously laughed out loud at #4.
